If you’re a regular here on my blog or on my social media accounts then there is no surprise that I like to switch it up often when it comes to my hair. However, I recently started back on my journey to growing out my natural curls. I did my first big chop back in ’06 along with a couple of my best friends. I have to say it was a very liberating experience.

I miss my short tapered look!

I loved my shaved sides!
I think the craziest part of the journey was the variety of reactions I received from friends and family. I mean after all, to me, it was just hair. But eventually folks got used to it and 5 or 6 more big chops later it doesn’t even phase them one bit what I do to my head lol.

It’s so hard not to go back to this!
My last chop I did back in October ‘15 and I took it a step further and went blonde. I absolutely loved that look and right now at this moment have to fight the urge to buzz it off and bleach it back. As stunning of a color it was, it was also very high maintenance. I was so tired of the repetitive bleaching sessions every few weeks.

My ride or die curly wig <3 (Equal Freetress “Bebe”)
So a few months ago, I introduced the curly wig you’ve seen me rocking on the blog as a protective style. I wanted something cute and manageable while I grew my hair long enough to get out of the awkward stage. You know the one where it’s not long enough to do much with but it’s too long to have a shape. Ugh. Girl, that’s why I’m itching to taper these sides and nape right now! Nevertheless, I am staying strong because my goal is to have my full luscious fro back within a year’s time. So I’m calling out all you naturalistas! What are your favorite protective styles and how do you keep it fun when you’re growing out your hair? Let me know in the comments! And stay tuned for my new look dropping on a blog near you:)

I love the fun you have with your hair! 🙂 With wigs, you can have versatility without messing with your natural hair, so that may be the best route for you to go now? I just rode the awkward stage out. I’ve never been comfortable in wigs; I tried braids once in the beginning of my natural journey (I’ve been natural for 15+ years), but the process was expensive, painful and made my scalp itch so that was short-lived. I wore twist-outs and chunky fros until my hair was long enough to look reasonably good in twists, then I wore twists probably 98% of the time. I cut my hair again back in October and am re-learning how to take care of my hair at this length, I was surprised at how much I’d forgotten, lol. I look forward to watching your journey whichever way you decide to go. 🙂

Thanks Rhonda for stopping by and offering great advice! I want to try to get my hair braided up this summer, but I know me and I’ll want them out and on to something different before I know it lol. I can’t wait to I get a little bit of hang time again so I can shake my curls!
